Dev Log - Patch 0.208B: Scenario "Sectors" Overhaul & System Optimizations

Hello, Strategy Madness here! đź‘‹
I'm thrilled to share this dev log for Patch 0.208B! Over the last few months, I’ve been focused on a major rework of existing game features, system enhancements, and of course, bug fixes. Here are the highlights of this patch, which I believe lay an important foundation for the future of Marine 2D.

1. A Little Housekeeping

Map creation and scenario elements have undergone significant changes. With the new “Sectors” system, I can now divide the map into more organized sections, making the environment more visually coherent and interesting. While gameplay may look similar, this setup opens up possibilities for unique scenarios: imagine a remote village, a military base at the edge of an alien plain, or a city with haunted gardens and a massive science lab to explore.

Previously, scenario elements were generated entirely at random, but now I can organize different components into distinct “sectors.” This paves the way for more immersive, coherent environments.

File Management Overhaul

One of the updates I’m most proud of is the separation of game data and player data files. This will allow progress tracking and run settings to be managed independently. In the final version, this foundation will enable a “multi-account” system with unique upgrade paths and personalized gameplay for each user.

Bug Fixes & Improvements

I’ve done a bit of cleanup across game functions, removing outdated code, which has sped up the tile-by-tile map generation and made it more precise. There are still minor artifacts due to the new structure, but these will be smoothed out over time. Now that the core logic for scenario generation is stable, I can shift my focus to adding new features and refining gameplay.

Ambitions & Future Plans 🚀

Marine 2D is my first game, and the ambitions are high. I know there’s still a lot to improve and a long way to go, but I see this time spent on Marine 2D as a crucial investment, both to make it the best experience possible and as a foundation for future games.

I invite you to try out this patch and share your impressions! Every piece of feedback is essential to improving the game and making it even more engaging. Thank you for your continued support! đź’ś
